TO BE HUMAN
To be a human being is to be so confused. It's to be so happy. It's to be alive. It's to be torn between everything. It's to be extremely done with life at one point and be so ready for it the next moment. Oh, to be a human being is to just BE! But I keep thinking, how many times are we just "BEING" though?
To be a human being, my reader, is to long for answers. It's to ask questions that neither of us can handle. It's to lie awake at the darkest hour of the night wondering what will become of you. Wondering how you got to where you are. It is to long for people you can never reach out to. It's to just be unaware of where life is taking you.
To be a human being is to grow old with each passing day. It’s to be so fragile when it comes to love that we deny ourselves the chance to love. And still, to be human is to love fully, not knowing what will come forth. To be a human being is to lose someone you love to death and still find a way to wake up and keep going, day after day.
To be human, my reader, is to achieve all the success you’d wished for but still feel empty. It’s to finally get that thing you’ve been longing for, only for that moment to last seconds. To be human is to do things outside your so-called “league” just to see what could happen. To be human is to live without knowing exactly where you came from, where you are going, or what lies ahead.
To be a human being is to witness the most evil crime or incident and still have to make space for the best memories life has to offer. It is to be so in love with your Maker today and hide from Him tomorrow because of whatever reasons. It is to seek the truth while still figuring out what truth means to you.
To be human is to carry all these contradictions within us and somehow still call ourselves whole. It is to wake up each day without having all the answers and still choose to live, to love, to hope, to question, to fail, to begin again. Maybe that is the strange beauty of it all. We may never fully understand ourselves, or this life, or where it is all taking us. But perhaps being human was never about having it all figured out. Perhaps it was simply about being here; confused, hopeful, broken, joyful, afraid, curious, alive: and allowing ourselves to just BE.
oh to be human!
Oh, to be human indeed. 😭😂 Just when you think you’ve figured yourself out, life introduces a new chapter and says, “Actually… let’s try again.” Perhaps that’s the whole point.
Being human means carrying profound contradictions—navigating fleeting success, deep grief, existential uncertainty, and the fear of love, yet choosing to love and move forward anyway. Ultimately, the beauty of life isn’t about finding all the answers or having it all figured out, but about embracing our brokenness and allowing ourselves to simply exist as we are.
I love this. Especially the idea of choosing to love and move forward despite not having all the answers. Maybe being human is less about solving the mystery and more about learning to live beautifully inside it. We’re all a little broken, a little brave, and somehow still here. ❤️
Oh to be human, well it’s exhausting and exhilarating that it’s ironic. But once we embrace both sides it’s iconic.
EXHAUSTING AND EXHILARATING! Girl I love this so much. Now this is the kind of philosophy I can get behind😂. Maybe being human is exhausting, exhilarating, ironic… and, on a good day, iconic.
Thank you Snaida for your input💚
To be HUMAN
Hello Mukami, thanks for a very reflective article. I have quite often pondered the essence of human existence. The paradox is monumental: the fickleness of our BEING, the tragedy of our HUMANITY, the bleakness of our future….and yet we stand!
Since Adam set foot on hallowed earth or if you look want to look at the first human (ape-man) in less Biblical terms, have had profound melancholic events their timelines. Events that were epic human failures with resounding resilience woven into their ultimate storyline. Why do we exist at all? What is the need to exist if we will as sure as the sun shall rise from the East, die one day? The current generation when you loop in Gen X, have achieved so much more in the shortest time capsule than at any other generational time zone. Yet, the leaps and bounds we make do not present a vivid picture of hope for the future! There should be, the technological advancements demand it, but alas! There is none. The fast pace of AI is proving to be a double-edged Samurai sword. The gains are there…. but there is something that is incoming! Something that will inexplicably destroy the very fiber of being human.
Why do I paint such a bleak picture? Well it is because most folks don’t may not be cognizant to this: there is more people who have died since the beginning of time, than those who are alive today. That is how bleak things are! That is why from my opening statements, I put Adam and Ape-man on equal footing. Both were doomed from the word go! This generation was the one highly favored and figured out to help the dreams of our Adam and Ape-man fore-fathers come into realization. The dream and aspiration of our ancestors was to out-live life itself. To live without the specter of death. But that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Despite the advances made in medicine, crop science, health lifestyle and now the biggest elephant in the room: AI, we are not winning this battle. We can’t fix the fragile default settings. We fight wars, we destroy livelihoods, we hate, we picket, we kill, we do the worst to each other without batting an eyelid! Yes, I do aver that we also quite poignantly love and hope. And it is very probable that love and hope are what’s keeping humans “alive”. Short of these two qualities, and our human existence is null and void. I REPEAT again, there is more people who have died since the beginning of time, than those who are alive today. The numbers are actually staggering…….at the time of writing this piece, there are already 109 BILLION dead compared to 8 BILLION alive today! That is 14 people DEAD to every 1 person ALIVE today!
There is the very high probability that dinosaurs were the savage masters of mother-earth. The Good Book in several verses alludes to this. But where are they now? What is more shocking?……that dinosaurs have existed here on earth for a far greater period than we have……550 times more! We have only been around for 300,000 years. Dinosaurs were calling the shots for an epic 180 MILLION years! We don’t appear to be hacking that almost immeasurable feat…. quite the opposite. If you include what extraordinary numbers that dinosaurs were able to hack, with the fact that any person alive today is a SUPER-STAR in terms is sheer absolute luck, further compounds the tragedy of our human existence.
